Worms and Germs

Worms & Germs Blog is an educational website coordinated by Drs. Scott Weese and Maureen Anderson of the Ontario Veterinary College’s Centre for Public Health and Zoonoses.

Maureen Anderson has no picture  Maureen Anderson is currently pursuing her PhD in the Department of Pathobiology at the University of Guelph. She grew up in Montreal, Quebec. In 1998 she moved to Guelph, Ontario where she completed her veterinary degree in 2003. Following some time in private practice, she returned to the University of Guelph for graduate studies in infectious disease and a residency in Large Animal Internal Medicine. She completed her thesis on methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in horses in December 2007, and earned her board certification with the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM). As a post-doctoral fellow she helped to set up the Worms & Germs Blog and its many resource sheets before beginning her PhD work on infectious disease control practices in veterinary medicine. She lives in Guelph and has two cats named Bonnie and Clyde.

Scott Weese has no picture  Scott Weese is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathobiology at the University of Guelph, and Public Health and Zoonotic Disease microbiologist for the University’s Centre for Public Health and Zoonoses. After graduating with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and spending time in private practice, he completed an large animal internal medicine residency and Doctor of Veterinary Science graduate program. He is board certified in internal medicine by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and is Chief of Infection Control at the Ontario Veterinary College Teaching Hospital. He has an active research program focusing on infectious diseases, particularly those that can be transmitted between animals and people. He lives outside of Guelph, Ontario with his family and a collection of pets, including a dog, cat, fish and a herd of rare-breed sheep.
